That\u2019s why No Kid Hungry and the Arizona Food Bank Network are celebrating <\/span>National Principals Month<\/b> this October by recognizing the incredible school leaders who ensure students have the nutrition they need to learn, grow, and thrive.<\/span><\/p>\n

New research from <\/span>No Kid Hungry\u2019s Back to School Report<\/b><\/a> highlights just how critical school meals are for families across the country. Surveying over 1,200 parents, the report reveals that many households are struggling to put food on the table, especially during the summer months when school is out. The return to school and access to reliable school meals provide vital relief. According to the report, 40% of parents worry that food will run out before the end of the month and rising food prices are their top concern. One crucial way to boost awareness of school meals is by finding innovative ways to make the program fun for the students they serve. Ms. Nichols has supported creative initiatives\u2014such as offering lunch service from one of the district\u2019s food trucks every Wednesday\u2014which has boosted participation and introduced students to exciting new menu options.<\/span><\/p>\n
The school lunch program at QCJH ensures that students receive a fresh, well-balanced meal each day. This year, Ms. Nichols collaborated with Yezica and the cafeteria manager to implement a 30-minute interval between the 7th and 8th grade lunch periods, allowing both groups to enjoy freshly prepared meals.<\/div>\n

In addition to supporting students\u2019 nutritional needs, the lunch period provides valuable time for social interaction, fostering positive peer relationships and contributing to overall student well-being. “The cafeteria offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere, where staff greet students by name and assist them in selecting a balanced meal before checking out at the point of sale.
