These grants will ensure families have a stable source of nutritious meals during the upcoming holiday and the new year.<\/p><p>Childhood hunger continues to be a pressing issue, with 1 in 8 kids in California facing hunger. Many children are at increased risk of hunger during the holiday break, as they lose access to the school meals they rely on \u2013 which as of this year are available at no cost for all California students. With the recent economic challenges families are facing families rely more than ever on children receiving healthy meals at school and from community organizations.<\/p><p>\u201cThe holidays can be a hungry time for kids, with schools closing for winter break at the same time many parents are facing increased economic pressure,\u201d said No Kid Hungry California Director Kathy Saile. \u201cWe\u2019re fortunate here in California to be one of the few states in the nation still able to offer free school meals to all kids who need them. This latest round of grant funding will help ensure kids and families don\u2019t miss out on those meals during the holiday break, and that hardworking school nutrition staff <a href=\"https:\/\/state.nokidhungry.org\/california\/2022-nkh-champions-spotlight\/\">and thousands of champions on the ground<\/a> can continue to reach even more kids next school year.\u201d<\/p><p>These grants will be used to improve holiday food transportation, increase school meal participation, enhance food storage methods, and provide secure locations for food distributions during the holiday break.<\/p><p>No Kid Hungry has provided $190,595 in grants to the following California school districts and community organizations:<\/p><ul><li style=\"list-style-type: none\"><ul><li style=\"list-style-type: none\"><ul><li>Ojai Unified School District (Ojai, CA)<\/li><li>Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of Kern County (Bakersfield, CA)<\/li><li>Desert Recreation Foundation (Indio, CA)<\/li><li>Community Action of Ventura County (Oxnard, CA)<\/li><li>Morongo Unified School District (Twentynine Palms, CA)<\/li><li>Yosemite Unified School District (Oakhurst, CA)<\/li><li>Madera Unified School District (Madera, CA)<\/li><li>Office of Fresno County Superintendent of Schools (Fresno, CA)<\/li><li>Rotary Club of Sin Fronteras (Riverside, CA)<\/li><li>Coachella Valley Unified School District (Thermal, CA)<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><p># # #<\/p><p><strong>About No Kid Hungry<\/strong><\/p><p>No child should go hungry in America.
