BUILDING NUTRITION HUBS: THE PROGRESSION OF SCHOOL MEALS FOR ALL<\/h2>

With School Meals for All implemented, how can schools expand nutrition services? Schools can adopt the Nutrition Hub model, where students can receive meals year-round. Becoming a hub requires planning, engaging stakeholders, and creating partnerships but in return schools are creating equitable access to food, increasing revenue, maximizing student participation, and becoming a community hub. During this presentation, participants will be introduced to tools and examples that are instrumental to becoming a school nutrition hub!<\/p>

In this interactive session, participants will learn planning practices for implementing \u201cSchools as Nutrition Hubs.\u201d A model where schools leverage breakfast, lunch, after-school and summer meals to maximize school nutrition funding and ensure more children are getting the nutrition they need all year round. \u201cSchools as Nutrition Hubs\u201d\u00a0 has expanded to involve partnerships with community based organizations and there are many supports for this work including No Kid Hungry grants, technical support, and peer learning. <\/span><\/p>

Daisy Munguia-Pinon serves as Associate Director for Share Our Strength\u2019s No Kid Hungry campaign focusing on ensuring children in need to be enrolled in effective federal nutrition programs; equitable initiatives; community partnerships, and program innovation. Daisy is a social entrepreneur with 10+ years of experience in the non-profit and education sectors. She has her B.A. in Communications with a minor in Chicano Studies from CSUF and holds a certificate in School Business Management from the Rossier School of Education at USC. She now continues her story pursuing her MBA at CGU. Previously, she served as the Regional Director for Rocket Learning, a national supplemental educational service provider. Rocket Learning provided free after-school tutoring programs, parent engagement workshops, and digital-based curriculum to help drive educational awareness within lower income communities. Her career focus is to use her skills to empower and make a positive impact in her community.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Jonelle Williams- Pagan is a graduate of Spelman College and currently a Senior Program Manager for Share Our Strength, a national nonprofit. Through its No Kid Hungry campaign, Share Our Strength focuses on finding solutions to end childhood hunger in the United States. Previously, Jonelle worked in various operational roles at McGraw Hill Education and Rocket Learning for ten years to ensure students in disadvantaged communities had equal access to supplemental education and resources.
