ALERT FROM NO KID HUNGRY CALIFORNIA: DISASTER FOOD BENEFITS FOR FAMILIES IMPACTED BY RECENT FIRES<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

Individuals and families directly impacted by the recent fires in Los Angeles County may be eligible for new food benefits. A family of four with monthly income up to $3,529 per month may be eligible to receive $975.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

SACRAMENTO, CA<\/strong> \u2014 No Kid Hungry California is encouraging families impacted by the recent fires in Los Angeles County to apply for new Disaster CalFresh (D-CalFresh) food benefits. D-CalFresh is a federal program that provides immediate food assistance to individuals and families impacted by natural disasters like earthquakes, floods, or fires.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A family of four with an income up to $3,529 per month may be eligible to receive a one-time $975 food benefit through this program.<\/span><\/p>\n

Households may only apply for Disaster CalFresh between <\/span>February 10-14, 2025<\/span>, <\/b>and <\/span>February 18-19, 2025<\/span>,<\/b> by calling 866-488-8482 or visiting a Los Angeles <\/span>DPSS office<\/span><\/a> to apply in person.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe encourage all families living in eligible households to apply for this program,\u201d said Kathy Saile, director of No Kid Hungry California. \u201cD-CalFresh can help to ensure that families and kids have access to the food they need during what has been such a difficult time in our region. But families must apply now.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Who can apply?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Individuals and families who lived or worked in a fire impacted area within Los Angeles County on January 7, 2025 may be eligible for D-CalFresh food benefits. Wildfire impacted areas include the following ZIP codes:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Individuals already participating in CalFresh and living in these zip codes do not need to apply for D-CalFresh benefits, but may be eligible to receive supplemental benefits, which bring the household up to the maximum benefit amount based on their household size.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How to apply<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Households may only apply for Disaster CalFresh between <\/span>February 10-14, 2025, <\/b>and <\/span>February 18-19, 2025,<\/b> by calling 866-488-8482 (M-F, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) or visiting a Los Angeles <\/span>DPSS office<\/span><\/a> to apply in person. In most cases, benefits will be available within three days of the date of a qualifying interview.<\/span><\/p>\n

D-CalFresh benefits will be provided via an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card, which is like a debit card that can be used to purchase food items at grocery stores, farmers markets and other authorized retailers.
