Breakfast After the Bell (BAB), a key initiative championed by the No Kid Hungry campaign, provides every student the opportunity to start their school day with a nutritious meal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In addition to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/state.nokidhungry.org\/california\/school-breakfast-2025\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">grants awarded in March<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, No Kid Hungry has awarded <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">$262,264<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in grants to the following California school districts to adopt, strengthen, and expand school breakfast programs:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Oakland Unified School District (Oakland, CA)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">San Francisco Unified School District (San Francisco, CA)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gilroy Unified School District (Gilroy, CA)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Morongo Unified School District (Twentynine Palms, CA)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Every meal served is a building block in a children\u2019s education and overall well-being. Studies have shown that kids who eat breakfast are more focused, score significantly higher on tests, miss less days of school and have fewer discipline programs and visits to the nurse\u2019s office. However, the USDA\u2019s most recent Household Food Security Report and its findings saw an increase of food insecurity. Fourteen million children live in food insecure households. This means 1 in 5 children are facing hunger in the United States.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cStarting the school day with a healthy school breakfast ensures California students start the day energized and ready to learn,\u201d said No Kid Hungry California Director Kathy Saile. \u201cNo child should ever face the challenge of starting the school day on an empty stomach.
