The holidays are upon us, and for so many across the country, this means two things: food and family.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Yet, for families facing hardship, the holidays can be a challenging time as they stretch their limited budget to make holiday meals, buy gifts and pay utility bills that are higher in cold weather.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here in Indiana, our No Kid Hungry family has been tirelessly innovating and adapting, connecting kids to the meals they need and ensuring families have access to nutritious meals \u2013 both during the holidays, and throughout the rest of the year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But No Kid Hungry couldn\u2019t do the work that we do without our Hoosier Hunger Heroes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cJen goes above and beyond for our students and her staff. No matter what, Jen finds a way to get the job done.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cJennifer Nicole Craig is a Wonder Woman! Our schools could not find a bread contract this year, so she and her staff ordered industrial machines and made fresh homemade bread for all of our students. I am so thankful for her and her amazing team!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cShe makes sure every child that walks through our door gets a well balanced lunch.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis person is my Hunger Hero because she loves the children and loves what she does and it shows every day. For example, we have children that bring lunch to school, but some of these students really only have a snack packed inside their lunch box. Ms. Glover will check [in with] each student as they stand in line to make sure they have a nutritious meal. If not, she sends them through the line to get a nutritious lunch. She does it every day without even being asked to do it. That’s why she is my Hunger Hero!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In Indiana, 1 in 7 kids are at risk of going hungry. <\/span><\/h3>\n

During this season of gratitude, <\/span>we recognize everyone<\/span><\/a> taking action to ensure kids have the food they need in times of crisis and not. The work we do would not be possible without our <\/span>Hoosier Hunger Heroes<\/span><\/a>, and we look forward to continuing to collaborate with them as we aim to build better, stronger systems for our children.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
