Join us in celebrating our shared wins and looking ahead to how we will continue our fight to ensure no kid in Kentucky goes hungry.<\/span><\/p><h2><strong>Reflecting on 2022<\/strong><\/h2><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Looking back on 2022, there are many wins to celebrate.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/><\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nokidhungry.org\/blog\/everything-you-need-know-about-white-house-conference-hunger-nutrition-and-health\"><b>For the first time in over 50 years, the White House held a conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health<\/b><\/a><b>. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This conference brought together key partners to produce a national strategy to end child hunger by 2030 and identified several key commitments that will play a critical role in ensuring this ambitious goal is met.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nokidhungry.org\/blog\/what-know-about-2021-usda-food-security-numbers\"><b>Child food insecurity hit a historic low.<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> In September, the USDA released their annual report \u201cHousehold Food Security in the United States in 2021\u201d that highlighted the lowest number of food insecure kids since tracking began in 1998, 1 in 8 kids. While this number is hopeful, it\u2019s important to acknowledge that disparities still exist and many of the nationwide waivers and programs that helped lower these numbers will soon be or have been phased out during the course of 2022.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/state.nokidhungry.org\/kentucky\/2022\/04\/01\/statement-share-our-strengths-lisa-davis-on-kentucky-legislation-that-removes-barriers-to-school-breakfast\/\"><b>Kentucky helped eliminate a barrier to accessing school breakfast.<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> In April, the state legislature passed Senate Bill 151, an act allowing school breakfast to be served during the first fifteen minutes of instructional time. Now, more Kentucky students will be able to access breakfast and be set up for success throughout the rest of the school day.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><h2><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-12174 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/state.nokidhungry.org\/kentucky\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2023\/01\/Jan-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/state.nokidhungry.org\/kentucky\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2023\/01\/Jan-1.png 600w, https:\/\/state.nokidhungry.org\/kentucky\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2023\/01\/Jan-1-300x150.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/h2><h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Road Ahead<\/span><\/h2><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Despite these wins, we know that our work is not over. As we look ahead to 2023, we remain committed to ensuring that <\/span><b>every<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> kid has 3 meals a day, 365 days a year. For us at No Kid Hungry Kentucky, that means\u2026\u00a0<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Continuing to advocate for <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nokidhungry.org\/blog\/policy-priorities-white-house-conference-hunger\"><b>actionable policy changes<\/b><\/a><b> at the federal level<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to improve nutrition access by modernizing the summer meals program, supporting nationwide summer EBT, strengthening SNAP, expanding no-cost school meals and improving WIC.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Working with advocates and local lawmakers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to increase access to school meals by eliminating the \u201creduced price\u201d category. Students who qualify for reduced price school meals would instead receive free meals. This can help more students access school meals, reduce \u201clunch debt\u201d, and take a financial burden off of struggling families.<\/span><\/li><li><b>Supporting child nutrition programs <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">like school, afterschool and summer meals by providing critical resources to school districts like grant dollars, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">trainings and resources. <\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As we take this time to both look back on the wins we celebrated in 2022, and look at what\u2019s in store for 2023, we want to say thank you!
