#NationalSchoolBreakfastWeek may be over, but at No Kid Hungry Louisiana we\u2019re thinking about the importance of school breakfast 365 days a year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

When kids eat breakfast, their days run smoother. Research shows that kids who eat school breakfast score higher on standardized tests, take fewer trips to the nurse, and have higher attendance and graduation rates. School breakfast is a win for families too and can help lighten the load during busy weekday mornings. <\/span>The benefits of school breakfast are compounding and have the ability to affect children now and their futures. However, across the country, <\/span>school breakfast is not reaching all the children who need it<\/span><\/i>. Students\u2019 access to breakfast is impacted by so many barriers, including transportation, busy mornings, stigma, and more. One strategy to work around these barriers and make sure students receive breakfast is Breakfast After the Bell. Whether you\u2019re just beginning to explore Breakfast After the Bell or have run your program for years, we have resources and support to make your program as successful as possible.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

During National School Breakfast Week, <\/span>No Kid Hungry Louisiana along with USDA Southwest Nutrition Director, Eddie Longoria, and his team visited Martin Behrman Charter School in New Orleans for School Breakfast Week on Thursday, March 7th. Louisiana was 1 of 4 states in the region that Eddie and his team scheduled to visit. During is visit at Martin Bherman Charter, Eddie served a few breakfasts and sat with students while they ate and discussed the importance of breakfast. The theme was \u201cSurf\u2019s Up\u201d and students received crossword puzzles, coloring sheets, pencils, and crayons.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

We also would like to highlight the wonderful events St. Tammany Parish Schools held during School Breakfast Week and Louisiana School Lunch Week. Classrooms and hallways were filled with decorations in honor of the School Breakfast Week\u2019s \u201cSurf\u2019s Up\u201d theme and awards were given to the best decorative classrooms. Staff members were dressed for the occasion and ready to serve!<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
