STATEMENT: No Kid Hungry Celebrates Maryland\u2019s Historic Investment in Summertime Grocery Benefits for Kids<\/strong><\/p>\n

Baltimore, MD<\/b> – Governor Wes Moore today signed into law HB183\/SB213, including $9 million in funding to allow Maryland to offer the new federal Summer EBT program beginning this year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Summer EBT will provide grocery benefits for 500,000 school-age children statewide and <\/span>add $60 million in federal funds <\/i><\/b>into the local economy. <\/span><\/p>\n

The following is a statement from No Kid Hungry Maryland Director Ayesha Holmes:<\/span><\/p>\n

“I’m proud to see Maryland taking monumental strides in the fight against summer hunger by investing in Summer EBT. This $9 million of State funding will unlock another $60 million in federal funds that will provide families with critical grocery funds during the summer months, helping cover the cost of the meals their kids count on during the school year.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSummer has traditionally been the hungriest time of year, but thanks to Governor Moore and the General Assembly, this year will be different for approximately 500,000 children across the state. Working alongside traditional summer meal programs, rural non-congregate summer meals and SNAP, Summer EBT provides a comprehensive solution to the long-standing challenge of summer hunger.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Beginning in summer 2024, eligible Maryland families will receive $40 per eligible child, per month in June, July, and August, for a total of $120. Funds will be issued on pre-loaded EBT cards that families can use to purchase groceries.
