About 250 people from across the region attended the event.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subscriber-only\">\n<p>Gladstone, a Blackfeet tribal member and Kalispell native, operates\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.indigikitchen.com\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IndigiKitchen<\/a>. She frequently posts short videos featuring\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.indigikitchen.com\/wild-rice-flatbread\/?fbclid=IwAR0da12VdAXJEjXeCnSC77sb2aZw6Ke_RoQ2VfPp0PijVbSfft_vOtL1wxI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">recipes like wild rice flatbread<\/a>\u00a0and participates in educational events about native plants and cooking.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subscriber-only\">\n<p>&#8220;A lot of kids probably grow up with better knowledge of the Oreo or the McDonald&#8217;s logo than what&#8217;s edible right outside their front door,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subscriber-only\">\n<h3>Sioux Chef<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subscriber-only\">\n<p>When Sean Sherman, an Ogalala Lakota member, started working in restaurants at age 13, he didn&#8217;t have a vision of indigenous eateries spanning North America. He helped open a food truck featuring indigenous cuisine, and now employs 14 people under his\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/sioux-chef.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sioux Chef brand<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subscriber-only\">\n<p>Sherman hopes to expand into a widespread training enterprise and restaurant. Only in isolated pockets was knowledge passed down.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subscriber-only\">\n<p>Processed foods available through government programs became staples to fill voids like that left by the loss of bison hunting. That sustainable agriculture could in turn help fuel economic development, he said, &#8220;creating a demand around indigenous foods.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subscriber-only\">\n<p>\u201cWe should be able to drive across North America and experience indigenous restaurants all the way,\u201d Sherman said. \u201cIf we can control our own food, we can control our own
