In Nebraska, school closures mean that the over 150,000 kids who rely on school meals are at risk for going without the food they\u2019ve depended on during the school year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When their communities needed them more than ever, schools, food banks, pantries and community organizations all across the state stepped up in incredible ways. Because of them, kids throughout Nebraska have remained nourished during the crisis.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These frontline hunger heroes &#8211; school nutrition and transportation professionals, community leaders, administrators, teachers, and volunteers &#8211; have done everything they can to ensure that kids continue to have access to meals. They\u2019ve worked tirelessly, often for longer shifts and without days off. They\u2019ve also found creative ways to get meals to kids, providing drive-thru meal pick-up and even delivering meals directly to kids\u2019 homes. These hunger heroes have shown tremendous dedication over the past weeks, all while juggling mounting stress and uncertainty.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Given the extraordinary need that families are experiencing, we urge our legislators to prioritize food access for vulnerable families and their children. No Kid Hungry has developed a new resource \u2013 <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/bestpractices.nokidhungry.org\/sites\/default\/files\/2020-05\/Supporting%20Schools%2C%20Communities%2C%20and%20Nutrition%20Programs%20During%20the%20COVID-19%20Pandemic%20-%20Recommended%20State%20Policy%20Actions.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Supporting school, communities, and Nutrition Programs During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Recommended State Policy Actions<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 that list options available to state policymakers to unlock the potential of federal and state food nutrition programs and ensure that families and children have the support they need.<\/span><\/p><ul><li>In\u00a0<strong>Omaha<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Food Bank for the Heartland<\/strong>\u00a0is using grant funding to serve kids five breakfasts and lunches each week at 13 drive-thru sites that mitigate coronavirus exposure.<\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Wood River Rural Schools <\/strong>is using funds from No Kid Hungry to purchase equipment for meal delivery, ensuring their students get the nutrition they need.<\/span><\/li><li><strong>Cozad Community Schools<\/strong> are purchasing equipment and supplies for transporting food, allowing them to distribute approximately 1,000 meals a day.<\/li><li><strong>Catholic Charities of Omaha<\/strong>\u00a0is using your gifts to provide over 46,000 hungry kids and their families a five-day supply of packaged foods and daily access to fresh foods this year.<\/li><\/ul><p>These are just a few of many hunger heroes across Nebraska. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This month, we want to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-47f469a elementor-widget elementor-widget-video\" data-id=\"47f469a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-settings=\"{&quot;video_type&quot;:&quot;vimeo&quot;}\" data-widget_type=\"video.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-wrapper elementor-open-inline\">\n\t\t\t<iframe class=\"elementor-video-iframe\" allowfullscreen title=\"vimeo Video Player\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/423201426?color&amp;autopause=0&amp;loop=0&amp;muted=0&amp;title=1&amp;portrait=1&amp;byline=1#t=\"><\/iframe>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6c1266e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6c1266e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Throughout May, we\u2019ll be celebrating and lifting up the amazing work that\u2019s been happening across the state by:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sharing stories all month long on our <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/nokidhungry\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Twitter<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/instagram.com\/nokidhungry\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instagram<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/facebook.com\/nokidhungry\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Facebook<\/span><\/a><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lifting up hunger heroes and their work on our <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/state.nokidhungry.org\/nebraska\/the-latest\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">blog<\/span><\/a><\/li><\/ul><h3><b>JOIN US<\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We know you have hunger heroes in your community you want to thank too.
