New York, NY <\/b>\u2013 As 2020 draws to a close, No Kid Hungry announced a total of $2.5 million in grants this year to schools and community organizations across the state that are providing free meals for kids during the ongoing pandemic. This investment comes as part of No Kid Hungry\u2019s continuing effort to ensure all children in New York remain nourished and healthy.<\/span><\/p>\n Across America, families are facing unprecedented levels of food insecurity as the coronavirus has led to lost jobs and wages. Right here in New York, more than a million kids could face hunger this year, a drastic uptick as a result of the pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWith food insecurity and poverty skyrocketing amid the ongoing pandemic, it\u2019s more important than ever to support the hard-working staff that have been constantly adapting their programs and innovating to make meals available to students and families across the state,\u201d said No Kid Hungry New York Director Rachel Sabella. \u201cEspecially during this crisis, school meal programs and trusted community partners are a critical source of nutrition and comfort for students. We\u2019re constantly inspired by the individuals who have been working tirelessly on the front lines to serve kids in their community, and proud to be able to support their incredible programs.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n These grants from No Kid Hungry help school districts with the added staffing and equipment costs required to expand and adapt their programs to meet increased need and operate safely under these unprecedented circumstances. Grants have also supported nonprofit community organizations across New York State increase their food distributions and capacity to support kids and families.
