Last week, Rachel <\/span><\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/citylimits.org\/2025\/01\/06\/opinion-2025-and-new-yorks-fight-against-child-hunger\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">published an op-ed<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> calling on the Governor to take up the fight against child hunger \u2013 including by making no-cost breakfast and lunch universal and expanding access to Summer EBT in New York.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;Every child in New York deserves access to three healthy meals a day, and Governor Hochul&#8217;s State of the State agenda is a promising step toward making that a reality. With proposals like an expanded Empire State Child Tax Credit, no-cost universal school meals, and the return of Summer EBT, the Governor seems ready and willing to address the child hunger crisis \u2014 and it couldn&#8217;t come at a more urgent time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;Food insecurity has <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ers.usda.gov\/publications\/pub-details?pubid=109895\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">spiked <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">nationwide and the cost of food is continuing to rise, yet Congress and the incoming administration have suggested that cuts to federal hunger-fighting programs may be on the way. Ninety-three percent of New Yorkers <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/state.nokidhungry.org\/new-york\/new-poll-amid-affordability-crisis-more-new-yorkers-struggling-with-rising-food-prices-and-cutting-back-on-healthy-foods\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">agree<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">: ending child hunger should be a bipartisan issue. With important programs like SNAP and WIC now at risk, New York needs to step up to ensure that kids get the nutritious food they need.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;The time to act is now.
