Welcome back to our blog series, the\u00a0No Kid Hungry New York Partner Spotlight<\/i>. We\u2019ll be speaking to our partners across the state, learning what\u2019s new in their 2026 summer meals programs, and celebrating the tremendous work they do to ensure that more kids have access to the fuel they need to learn, grow and thrive. This week, we also heard from Amiee Levesque at Honeoye Central School District<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Can you describe your community and school district? What do you love about where you live and work?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

“Our community is made up of roughly 93 square miles. We are a lake community, which means we also have a lot of seasonal residents and housing.“<\/span><\/p>\n

What are some of the challenges your community is facing that you’d like to address? <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

“I think any community faces challenges with enrollment. Due to Honeoye being a vacation destination, we do not have a lot of housing available to welcome new families. And unfortunately the housing we have is priced out of many people’s budgets. “<\/span><\/p>\n

How do you get kids excited to eat summer meals? <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

“We get kids excited for summer meals by the work we do during the school year to encourage students to try new foods and through student surveys.“<\/span><\/p>\n

What’s your favorite meal to serve? What menu items do the kids love to eat?\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

“Our favorite meal to serve is a classic grilled cheese with tomato soup. It is a fan favorite for all students K-12. The students also love our macaroni and cheese day as well as ramen bowls. ”<\/p>\n

What keeps you motivated to do this work?\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

“The smile on the kids faces when they come in for meals and the excitement they have to try new foods.”<\/p>\n

What’s unique or special about your summer meals program? <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

“Our program is unique because we are a K-12 school. Our community is very tight knit and involved. Our summer meals program continues to succeed because our families like to participate and be involved. ”<\/p>\n

If you could tell everyone in America something about free summer meals, what would you tell them?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

“Families from all backgrounds should\u00a0take advantage of summer meals programs. We as a society need to do a better job at erasing the stigma associated with things like meal services.”<\/p>\n

What’s the best feedback you’ve gotten about the work you’ve done in your summer meals program?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

“Families love not having to rush around to provide nutritional meals for their children during busy summer days. Many families have said it has eased the burden of not having to worry about the stress of having to buy food and wondering how they are going to afford bills while keeping their kids fed while school is out.“<\/span><\/p>\n

What are you most proud of regarding your summer meals program?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

“I am most proud of our participation rates and our work with the community to team up and also provide free school supplies thanks in part to our community donations.”<\/p>\n
