The event, and prizes for the winners, were supported by The Dairy Alliance.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to all of the winners over the years!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ULs1F9YpFbI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here to see the impact that Breakfast in the Classroom has had on 2016 winner Pasquotank Elementary.<\/a><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<h2>2018 Challenge<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/state.nokidhungry.org\/north-carolina\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2022\/03\/2018-Breakfast-Challenge-1.23.2019.pdf\">Click here to see the one-pager with the winners.<\/a><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<h2>2017 Challenge<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/state.nokidhungry.org\/north-carolina\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2022\/03\/2017-Breakfast-Challenge-1.22.2018.pdf\">Click here to see the one-pager with the winners,<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/state.nokidhungry.org\/north-carolina\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2022\/03\/2017-Breakfast-Challenge-Districts.png\">click here to the breakdown of districts that were also recognized for surpassing the 70 percent milestone.<\/a><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<h2>2016 Challenge<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/state.nokidhungry.org\/north-carolina\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2022\/03\/2016-Breakfast-Challenge.pdf\">Click here to see the one-pager with the winners,<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/state.nokidhungry.org\/north-carolina\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2022\/03\/2016-Breakfst-Challenge-Districts.pdf\">click here to the breakdown of districts that were also recognized for surpassing the 70 percent milestone.<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/nokidhungrync.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/School-Breakfast-Challenge-2016-Press-Release-3.21.2017.pdf\">You can also view a press release about the challenge results<\/a><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<h2>2015 Challenge<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/state.nokidhungry.org\/north-carolina\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2022\/03\/2015-Breakfast-Challenge.pdf\">Click here to see the one-pager with the winners.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/nokidhungrync.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/NKH20State20MapNEW20Final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">100 school districts of North Carolina&#8217;s 115 districts signed up for the Challenge across the state.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>During the Challenge, 242 schools switched to an innovative breakfast service model, such as\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/nokidhungrync.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Breakfast20Myths_Factsheet2028129.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Breakfast in the Classroom<\/a>, Grab &amp; Go, Kiosks, or 2nd Chance served later in the day after the bell.<\/li>\n<li>The top 3 elementary, middle and high school Breakfast Challenge winners all have\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/nokidhungrync.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/BreakfastOptions_factsheet2028129.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">innovative breakfast models<\/a>\u00a0and\/or served &#8220;universal&#8221; breakfast (free to all students).<\/li>\n<li>Of the top 50 Breakfast Challenge winners:\n<ul>\n<li>29 were\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bestpractices.nokidhungry.org\/school-breakfast\/community-eligibility-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Community Eligibility Provision (CEP)<\/a>\u00a0schools, where all students are served all meals at no charge.<\/li>\n<li>38 were schools with innovative breakfast models and\/or served &#8220;universal&#8221; breakfast.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2>2014 Challenge<\/h2>\n<p>Highlights:<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to the\u00a02014\u00a0NC Breakfast Challenge Winning Schools, to the\u00a0Top 50 Schools\u00a0overall, all of which had a breakfast participation increase of more than 36%, and to the\u00a0Top 15 Districts\u00a0with the greatest participation in school breakfast.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>More than 62% of North Carolina&#8217;s 2,500 public schools enrolled in the 2014 Challenge!<\/li>\n<li>Of the 1,567 schools enrolled in the Breakfast Challenge, 633 were\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bestpractices.nokidhungry.org\/school-breakfast\/community-eligibility-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CEP (Community Eligibility Provision)<\/a>\u00a0schools.<\/li>\n<li>Of the Top 50 Breakfast Challenge winners, 31 were CEP schools, and 46 were schools with\u00a0innovative breakfast models\u00a0or served &#8220;universal&#8221; breakfast (free to all students).<\/li>\n<li>Statewide, NC had a 36% school breakfast participation rate in October 2014 among all its students, representing an average increase of 2.3% over October 2013.<\/li>\n<li>Schools in the Breakfast Challenge saw a 40% participation rate in October 2014, representing a 3.8% average increase over October 2013. In contrast, schools that were NOT enrolled in the Challenge had a 28% participation rate, on average, representing essentially no change from October 2013.<\/li>\n<li>CEP schools had a 57% participation rate in October 2014, representing an average increase of 7.3% from October 2013!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2>2013 Challenge<\/h2>\n<p>Highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All of the top 50 schools adopted an innovative, alternative breakfast service model such as Breakfast in the Classroom, Grab and Go, or Second Chance (Breakfast served after the bell)<\/li>\n<li>All of the top 50 schools in the Challenge had participation increases ranging from\u00a0<strong>30%<\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0<strong>66%<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The participation of schools statewide (including those not participating in the Challenge) increased an average of<strong>1%<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Among all of the schools who participated in the Challenge, the average increase was\u00a0<strong>4%<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Of the 920 schools who signed up for the Challenge, more than 180 schools adopted a non-traditional, new method of serving breakfast at the start of the 2013-2014 school year, and among those schools the average increase in participation was <strong>15%.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The winners were selected based on the greatest increase in breakfast participation for October 2013 compared to October 2012.<\/li>\n<li>Thanks go to our great partners in the Challenge and to SUDIA for generously providing grants and prizes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"fl-module fl-module-html fl-node-5aef32b07b07f\" data-node=\"5aef32b07b07f\">\n<div class=\"fl-module-content fl-node-content\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>No Kid Hungry NC hosted an annual statewide School Breakfast Challenge for many years to encourage traditional preK-12 public schools to feed more kids breakfast.\u00a0The Challenge was focused on raising&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":37,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-170","page","type-page","status-publish"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v21.8 -
