SNAP, or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nokidhungry.org\/blog\/five-facts-how-snap-helps-kids\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">one of our nation\u2019s most powerful tools to fight <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">hunger and Congress has until September 30 to protect and strengthen SNAP in this year\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nokidhungry.org\/blog\/5-things-know-about-farm-bill-and-how-it-fights-hunger\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Farm Bill<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a piece of legislation that determines how SNAP is operated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Right now, we\u2019re urging Congress to:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Protect the value of SNAP benefits.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> SNAP benefits increased to an average of $6 a day per person in 2021. This was the first increase in nearly 50 years. But these benefits are still pretty low. It\u2019s critical Congress protects this increase and doesn\u2019t cut the value of SNAP benefits.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Increase access to SNAP.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Under the current program, there are eligibility limitations, administrative burdens and outdated technology that prevent SNAP from reaching every community that needs it. Families need support, not more red tape from Washington. Congress can improve SNAP by cutting that red tape and improving the program\u2019s technology so more people who need SNAP can access it.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Defend access to SNAP-Ed. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">SNAP-Ed is the nutrition education component of SNAP, delivering free courses that help individuals stretch their SNAP dollars to shop for and cook healthy meals on a budget. It\u2019s a critical piece of the SNAP program and Congress should continue to prioritize is by funding SNAP-Ed programs at their current level.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>It\u2019s important that Congress hears from you as it decides what SNAP policies make it into this year\u2019s Farm Bill. Here are three things you can do on Tuesday, September 12:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>1. Learn:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Now that you\u2019re up-to-speed on the importance of SNAP in this year\u2019s Farm Bill, share this blog post with your friends and family to encourage them to take action.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>2. Send: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Reach out directly to your Members of Congress and urge them to protect and strengthen SNAP in this year\u2019s Farm Bill. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/474v6xb\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Click here to easily find and email your lawmakers.<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>3.
