Austin, TX \u2013 No Kid Hungry Texas has awarded more than $144,000 in grants to support breakfast programs at 30 schools across the state. The funding boosts Breakfast After the Bell initiatives, a program that increases access to school breakfast by bringing breakfast out of the cafeteria and making it a part of the school day.<\/p>

More than 1 in 4 kids in Texas live in families that struggle with hunger. Research shows that hunger has long-term ramifications on children, including lower test scores, weaker attendance rates, and a higher risk of hospitalizations and chronic diseases. No Kid Hungry Texas and its partners focus on Breakfast After the Bell as a critical way to end childhood hunger in across the state.<\/p>

Accessing traditional cafeteria breakfast service can be challenging for many kids. Breakfast After the Bell provides breakfast in a way that is more convenient and accessible to students, resulting in increased student participation.<\/p>

\u201cWe are pleased to offer these grants to ensure that all students can start their day with a healthy breakfast,\u201d said Kathy Green, No Kid Hungry Texas director. \u201cThrough partnerships like these, we are moving Texas closer to the goal of No Kid Hungry.\u201d<\/p>

The following schools received funding in the latest round of No Kid Hungry breakfast grants:<\/p>

  • Dalhart Elementary School – Dalhart, TX – $1,850.00<\/li>
  • Edgewood Elementary – Edgewood, TX – $5,233.00<\/li>
  • Eustace Middle School – Eustace, TX – $2,259.00<\/li>
  • Eustace High School – Eustace, TX – $2,500.00<\/li>
  • Mayde Creek Junior High School – Houston, TX – $4,800.00<\/li>
  • Sundown Elementary – Katy, TX – $4,800.00<\/li>
  • Rodger and Ellen Beck Junior High School – Katy, TX – $4,800.00<\/li>
  • Woodcreek Elementary – Katy, TX – $4,800.00<\/li>
  • Bear Creek Elementary – Katy, TX – $4,800.00<\/li>
