One of their most powerful, yet often overlooked, roles is combatting summer hunger.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Libraries as Summer Meal Sites: A Natural Fit<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When school ends, many children lose access to consistent school meals\u2013<\/span><b>making summer the hungriest time of the year<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Summer meal programs help bridge that gap, ensuring students\u00a0 receive the nutrition they need to thrive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Libraries are uniquely positioned to host these programs because they are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Accessible &amp; Trusted:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> They provide safe, welcoming, and family-friendly environments.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Resource-Rich:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Most already host summer reading and educational events that attract the target audience.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Community-Centric:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> They are ideal locations for reaching families who may face barriers to other food distribution sites.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To support this work, No Kid Hungry Texas has developed a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/state.nokidhungry.org\/texas\/resources\/libraries-as-summer-meal-sites\/\"><b>Summer Meal Site Toolkit specifically for libraries<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.
