Summer EBT would provide eligible families with $120 per child over the summer on a pre-loaded card to purchase groceries, helping bridge the gap when school meals are unavailable.

If implemented in Texas, the program could reach an estimated 3.75 million children and bring approximately $693 million in federal funding into local communities, supporting both families and local food retailers. Already operating in 38 states, Summer EBT has demonstrated its effectiveness in reducing summer hunger and strengthening food access, making it a powerful, evidence-based solution we are advocating to bring to every Texas child.[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line”][image_with_animation image_url=”13823″ image_size=”medium_large” animation_type=”entrance” animation=”None” animation_movement_type=”transform_y” hover_animation=”none” alignment=”center” border_radius=”none” box_shadow=”none” image_loading=”default” max_width=”100%” max_width_mobile=”default”][divider line_type=”No Line”][vc_column_text css=”” text_direction=”default”]For many Texas families, “struggling to make ends meet” isn’t abstract. It means choosing between buying nutritious food and covering another essential — impossible choices no family should have to make. In a poll No Kid Hungry Texas conducted last year, 78% of families with children said they’d had to choose between buying enough nutritious food and paying for at least one other basic need, things like health care, utility bills, rent, or transportation. Summer EBT wouldn’t erase these hard choices, but it would ease them, freeing up money that would otherwise have to be pulled from rent, gas, or medicine.

Our next issue in September will feature fresh data, as our newest poll on Texas families is set to be released soon — stay tuned for updated insights on how families are navigating rising food costs.[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line”][vc_column_text css=”” text_direction=”default”]

What Texas Families Are Saying

[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line”][image_with_animation image_url=”13824″ image_size=”full” animation_type=”entrance” animation=”None” animation_movement_type=”transform_y” hover_animation=”none” alignment=”center” border_radius=”none” box_shadow=”none” image_loading=”default” max_width=”100%” max_width_mobile=”default”][vc_column_text css=”” text_direction=”default”]

Raven Behrens is the pre-K–2nd grade counselor for Brown Primary and Smithville Elementary, with 15 years in the district and two daughters in the schools she serves.

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”” text_direction=”default”]“Knowing that at those kids’ homes that their families are not able to provide for them in the same way that other families can provide for their children, I know that that has to be a heartbreaking thing for the parents in that home as well.
