On average, only 4% of children eligible for free or reduced-price lunch participate in the CACFP At-risk Afterschool Meals program each school day.
Afterschool enrichment programs in eligible areas can provide free supper and earn a high reimbursement – a win-win for kids and providers! The No Kid Hungry Virginia campaign has teamed up with the Virginia Department of Education to increase participation in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) At-Risk Afterschool Meals provision so that more Virginia children get free supper.
Feeding children supper after school is a logical step for programs that already provide lunch or snacks and want to see kids in their communities grow strong and healthy.
