{"id":13354,"date":"2024-02-28T20:14:25","date_gmt":"2024-02-28T20:14:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/state.nokidhungry.org\/virginia\/?p=13354"},"modified":"2024-02-28T20:14:25","modified_gmt":"2024-02-28T20:14:25","slug":"summer-non-congregate-grant-opportunity-from-no-kid-hungry-virginia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/state.nokidhungry.org\/virginia\/2024\/02\/28\/summer-non-congregate-grant-opportunity-from-no-kid-hungry-virginia\/","title":{"rendered":"Summer Non-Congregate Grant Opportunity from No Kid Hungry Virginia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">No Kid Hungry Virginia is excited to announce the launch of its Summer Grant Opportunity, designed to provide essential funding to support school districts and community organizations operating the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) or Seamless Summer Option (SSO) in rural communities.\u00a0<\/span>Funds are intended to support school districts and community organizations in implementing non-congregate meal programs this summer.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Strategies may include:<br \/>\n<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ensuring maximum student participation and improving meal quality in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and Seamless Summer Option (SSO).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Promoting awareness of non-congregate meal availability to students and families.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Supporting partnerships with school districts and\/or other local community-based organizations (nonprofit organizations, farmers\/food producers, local governments, etc.) to implement and increase access to non-congregate meal programs.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Budget requests may include:<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Meal service supplies and equipment.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Costs of hiring additional staff positions, increasing hours for existing staff, and providing incentives for staff retention, recruitment, and training.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Technology requests, including point-of-service machines.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cleaning supplies\/equipment.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Program outreach, benefit enrollment assistance (SNAP, WIC, etc.) and marketing costs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Transportation costs associated with meal delivery such as refrigerated trucks or fuel.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Additional expenses as needed.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Budget requests may NOT include:<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Funding to support congregate summer meal programs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Funding to cover existing and ongoing food costs.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Funding to eliminate or reduce student meal debt.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Supplies and equipment needed to support food access programs not associated with the federal child nutrition programs, including school gardens or farms, school pantries, backpack programs, etc.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Existing and ongoing staffing costs, including hiring chefs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Supplies, equipment, and\/or funding to support school building or capital investments (e.g. cafeteria redesign).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Applications are due March 22, 2024<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.
