“No Kid Hungry applauds Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders for her commitment to kids. With her support of school meals and Summer EBT, Governor Sanders is leading the way in efforts to end childhood hunger,” said Kate Goodin, Senior Manager for No Kid Hungry Arkansas. “Recognizing that 1 in 4 Arkansas kids face hunger, Governor Sanders has put school meals and Summer EBT at the forefront of her plans to ease the financial burden on families by ensuring that food is accessible for all kids, regardless of season.”
In its first year, Summer EBT served more than a quarter of a million Arkansas kids by providing grocery benefits that enabled families to purchase nutritious foods over the summer break. No Kid Hungry acknowledges the significant impact of longtime partner, the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance, whose partnership with the Department of Human Services was instrumental to the success of Summer EBT.
In her State of the State address, Governor Sanders pledged to work with the Arkansas legislature to find ways to increase the impact of this summer’s EBT benefits for families.
Additionally, Governor Sanders has committed to sustaining the Summer EBT program and the schools’ free lunch and breakfast programs for years to come. Her goal is to make school breakfast free for all Arkansas kids.
