During the 2019 Global Citizen Festival in New York City, Hillsborough County’s own Chiaramonte Elementary was featured in a nationally broadcast segment that highlighted the impact of school breakfast on students across the country. Hillsborough County was the perfect choice to showcase the benefits of breakfast – the district has been a champion of the School Breakfast Program for decades. Hillsborough County was one of the first large school districts in the country to offer universal free breakfast to all students and has continued to do so for over 20 years. Recently, the district introduced a tremendously successful Breakfast in the Classroom program and is now offering Grab and Go breakfasts in more than 80 schools! Every day, the student nutrition services team prepares and serves more than 80,000 school breakfasts and works with teachers, administrators and custodial staff to raise the bar on student achievement. Thanks to Hillsborough County Schools for partnering with No Kid Hungry to ensure all children get the healthy food they need every day to thrive!
