All across Florida, No Kid Hungry is working alongside amazing school nutrition professionals and devoted partners to help make sure every kid is getting the nutritious meals they need every day. As we are very close to stepping into 2024, it is the perfect opportunity to look back at what we’ve accomplished together this past year to help end child hunger in Florida.
As is the case most years, many things have changed over the course of the last twelve months. Families continue to do their best to manage grocery purchases for their families and many are still transitioning to supporting their families without the benefits that helped feed children and lift families out of poverty during the pandemic. This has exacerbated the importance of our work. Today, 1 in 7 Florida kids are unsure where their next meal will come from. Great strides have been made but there is still a lot of work to be done. With your help, we will continue to work hard until No Kid Hungry is a reality.
In 2023, No Kid Hungry Florida continued to provide grants to partners throughout the state to provide crucial funds to support meal programs.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It has a huge impact not only on students’ health but also on their academic success. Connecting kids to the School Breakfast Program is a key element in our strategy to end child hunger. This year we have worked hard to raise awareness about the importance of the School Breakfast Program and to support schools’ implementation of the program. We partnered with a number of school districts across the state to support programs such as breakfast in the classroom and grab and go breakfast that increase the access to school breakfast programs.
While summer is known to many kids as an amazing time, for many it is the hungriest time of the year. Connecting kids to summer meals is another key element in No Kid Hungry’s strategy to end child hunger. We support organizations and schools that provide summer feeding programs with crucial funds and technical assistance to reach as many kids as possible.
None of this would have been possible without your support. There is still a lot to be done to make No Kid Hungry a reality and your support is still crucial to our work!
