No Kid Hungry Louisiana Provides $76,000 in Grants to Schools Serving Free Meals this Holiday Season and Beyond

No Kid Hungry Louisiana today announced more than $76,000 in new grants to support three schools across the state providing free meals for kids and families this holiday season and beyond. This latest round of funding is part of $3.7 million the non-profit has invested in the state since the start of the pandemic to ensure all kids in Louisiana remain nourished and healthy.
The holiday break can be one of the hungriest times of year for many kids who rely on the meals they typically get at school. This year, that’s exacerbated by the continuing economic impact of the pandemic and natural disasters that have devastated parts of the state. At the same time, many school districts are facing staffing and supply chain challenges that are making it even more difficult than ever to feed kids.
The grants will support the staffing and equipment necessary for school districts to overcome these challenges, expanding access to school breakfast and lunch and providing boxed meals while schools are closed for holiday break, helping ensure Louisiana kids have access to three meals a day, everyday.
“As we head into the holiday season, millions of kids across Louisiana are facing hunger,” said No Kid Hungry Louisiana Director Rhonda Jackson. “The pandemic, compounded by the effects of Hurricane Ida, have had a devastating impact on families across our state, and school meals programs remain a critical lifeline. No Kid Hungry is proud to support these programs and the incredibly dedicated school nutrition staff who make them possible.”
The latest round of No Kid Hungry grants will support the following schools and nonprofits:
- East Baton Rouge Parish School District (Baton Rouge, Louisiana)
- New Orleans Public Schools (New Orleans, Louisiana)
- St. Helena Parish School Board (Greensburg, Louisiana)
