As January draws to a close, we’ve witnessed both extraordinary weather and extraordinary achievements across Louisiana’s schools. Through historic snowfall that brought rare snow days to communities across our state, our dedicated school nutrition professionals continued their vital mission of nourishing young minds and bodies.

The joy of Louisiana students experiencing snow – many for the first time – reminds us that every day brings opportunities for wonder and new experiences. Just as that fresh blanket of snow created possibilities for winter fun, your daily work creates possibilities for students to reach their full potential.

We see the impact of your dedication everywhere we look. At Jefferson Parish Schools, young Micaela achieved an impressive second place finish in youth chess, while third graders at Bissonet Plaza delved into Louisiana culture through literature and cooking, making their own gumbo. These hands-on experiences connecting food and learning show just how integral proper nutrition is to education.

Over at DeSoto Parish, students demonstrated remarkable commitment by attending weekend ACT Boot Camp, preparing for their futures while fueled by the meals you provide everyday. The Talented Arts Program students from St. Landry Schools explored ancient Egyptian history at the Louisiana Art and Science Museum, their minds and bodies energized for learning.

You’re not just serving food – you’re serving possibility. You’re fueling the dreams of future West Point cadets like Alexandria Senior High’s Matthew, and nurturing the creativity of students exploring Louisiana’s rich cultural heritage through storytelling and cuisine. At Abita Middle School, students are learning valuable lessons about kindness and responsibility, building character that will serve them throughout their lives.

Your work matters more than you know. Every breakfast served is brain power for morning classes. Every lunch provided is energy for afternoon activities. Every snack and after school meal distributed helps maintain focus during study sessions. You’re not just feeding students – you’re feeding their potential, their aspirations, and their futures.

As we move forward into 2025, know that your dedication makes a difference every single day. Whether it’s supporting academic achievement, athletic performance, or artistic expression, you play a crucial role in student success. Thank you for being the heroes behind the serving line, the champions of child nutrition, and the foundation of our educational community.

To every nutrition professional, cafeteria worker, and food service staff member: you are appreciated, you are valued, and you are making a lasting impact on Louisiana’s next generation of leaders.

Thank you for fueling dreams, one meal at a time.
