[February 11, 2025, Pasadena, Texas] – Today, No Kid Hungry Texas announced $50,000 in grant funding to the Pasadena Independent School District to support breakfast programs in five elementary schools. The grant will be used to purchase breakfast carts and other new equipment that will allow the district to reach more kids each day with a morning meal.
Research shows that children who start the day with a healthy meal demonstrate better concentration, improved memory, higher academic achievement, better attendance, and fewer behavioral issues.
“In many households, busy schedules and tight budgets can lead to compromising a nutritious breakfast for convenience or cost savings,” said Stacie Sanchez Hare, Director of No Kid Hungry Texas. “We’re proud to continue investing in school breakfast programs that ensure children receive the fuel they need to start a full day of learning.”
The following five elementary schools in Pasadena ISD will benefit from this grant:
- Freeman Elementary
- Bailey Elementary
- Fisher Elementary
- Burnett Elementary
- Frazier Elementary
“Our partnership with No Kid Hungry Texas will be immensely helpful to ensuring our youngest students receive a nutritious meal to start the day,” said Mary Harryman, Nutrition Services Director for Pasadena ISD. “This investment will help our school nutrition teams operate their “breakfast after the bell” program, meeting students with flexible meal options each morning.”
No Kid Hungry Texas continues to invest in meals programs across the state, as well as advocates for smart nutrition policies. During the 88th Texas Legislature, the organization successfully garnered a state budget approval to cover the cost of school breakfast for reduced-price eligible children across the state. As a result, over 7.7 million additional breakfast meals were served at no cost during the 2023-2024 school year.
