Austin, TX – No Kid Hungry Texas has awarded Dallas Independent School District with a $10,000 grant to support recovery efforts following the devastating tornadoes that hit Dallas-Fort Worth last October.
The funding will support a new cafeteria service line at Thomas Edison Junior High School to accommodate the influx of students from DISD campuses that were destroyed by the storm.
“When a natural disaster hits, it’s even more critical that kids can rely on healthy meals at school. We’re proud to partner with Dallas Independent School District to ensure students affected by the storm have the food they need to learn and thrive,” said No Kid Hungry Texas Director Kathy Green.
More than 1 in 4 kids in Texas live in families that struggle with hunger. Research shows that hunger has long-term ramifications on children, including lower test scores, weaker attendance rates, and a higher risk of hospitalizations and chronic diseases. No Kid Hungry Texas partners with school districts and local community organizations across the state to ensure all kids get three healthy meals each day.
