None of our work would be possible without the dedicated hunger heroes on the front lines of the fight to end childhood hunger. From school nutrition staff to community volunteers, these are the boots on the ground, they are the people showing up every day to make sure kids have the meals they need to thrive.
Through this campaign, we recognize and celebrate their unwavering commitment to ensuring kids are fed. Because not all heroes wear capes. Some wear aprons, name badges, and big hearts.

Kasandra Davis
Congratulations to Kasandra Davis, the Child Nutrition Director at Brenham ISD, for being selected as one of No Kid Hungry Summer Hunger Heroes.

Davis earned the award for creating a free summer meals distribution schedule that covers the entirety of students’ summer vacation, bridging the nutritional gap until the new school year starts in August.

“She exemplifies the work of No Kid Hungry. She is out and about in the community doing what we work and advocate for. But she takes it to the next level.  She goes above and beyond and it’s the kids that benefit.  It’s always about the kids.”

Brianna Fleming
Congratulations to Brianna Fleming, Program Manager at Central Texas Food Bank , for being selected as one of No Kid Hungry Texas Summer Hunger Heroes.

Fleming earned the award for stepping in when several partner sites hit unexpected operational hurdles mid-summer, coordinating across departments to troubleshoot issues and keep meals reaching kids without interruption during the months when school meals are hardest for families to access.

“Brianna consistently reminds our team that every meal represents a child who may otherwise go hungry. That perspective drives every decision she makes and inspires those around her to serve with the same level of compassion and excellence.”

Ben Musquiz
Congratulations to Ben Musquiz, who did meal delivery during Sabinal ISD summer meal program, for being selected as one of No Kid Hungry Texas Summer Hunger Heroes.

Ben earned the award for showing up wherever he’s needed — behind the wheel, in the kitchen, or ankle-deep in mud pushing their stuck delivery bus — so that more families could reach meals during the months when school meals are hardest to access.

“Even when our efforts to free the bus weren’t successful and we ultimately needed a tow, Ben never gave up. Covered in mud and still working hard, he demonstrated the kind of dedication, teamwork, and commitment that make him a true Summer Hunger Hero.”

Shamedria Gilmore
Congratulations to Shamedria Gilmore, the Cafeteria Director at Grapeland Elementary, for being selected as one of No Kid Hungry Texas Summer Hunger Heroes.

Shamedria earned the award for running her site’s summer feeding program single-handedly through the month of June — breakfast and lunch, Monday through Friday — and personally delivering meals to families without transportation so that no child is left out.

“She shows love in compassion throughout our whole community.”

Michelle Keller
Congratulations to Michelle Keller, the Child Nutrition Specialist at Beeville ISD summer meal program, for being selected as one of No Kid Hungry Texas Summer Hunger Heroes.

Keller earned the award for leading the Trojan Grill Summer Nutrition Learning Labs, turning summer meal service into hands-on nutrition education — taste tests, cooking demonstrations, and interactive activities that get kids curious about food they’d never tried before.

“Her passion transformed what could have been a simple summer meal into a meaningful learning opportunity that encouraged healthy habits and family engagement.”
