Thank You, Hunger Heroes!

None of our work would be possible without the dedicated school nutrition staff who are on the ground and work tirelessly to support children and provide them with nutritious meals 365 days a year. We recognize and celebrate their commitment to ensuring kids are fed through our Hunger Hero campaign. Tory Gibson, School Nutrition Staff, Horry County

Amazing lady that goes out of her way everyday to TEACH our children about school nutrition. She always has a smile and lots of costumes. She makes learning fun for all ages and travels to all schools from KG to senior high. She teaches with fun and adventure and encourages all to participate in school meals.”

April Floyd, Cafeteria Manager, East Clarendon Middle & High School

“April Floyd is a first year cafeteria manager at East Clarendon Middle & High School in Turbeville, SC. She is a school nutrition hero because she shows leadership, compassion, and understanding to all of her staff members as well as to her students. You would never know that April is a first year manager. She has the natural ability to work with people and also to turn out very delicious meals. She meets with her staff each Friday to see if they have any ideas or suggestions that they want to share with her. She has purchased T-shirts for each holiday occasion for her staff as well as decorations for her cafeteria. The staff also wanted to listen to music in the mornings as they prepare lunch and she provided a radio for that. Because she is such a fun person and hard worker she has the respect of her staff as no other. I love going into her kitchen and observing her interacting with her staff as well as the students. I was so impressed with her manager skills that I picked her school for a review from the State Department of Education to observe. She and her staff had an excellent review.”

Sheila Gordon, Head Athletic Trainer, Lexington One

“CHEF GOGO (Coach Gordon’s alter ego) visits classrooms and brings in recipes for healthy snacks or breakfasts. She shows our students how easy it is to put together a fast, convenient, on-the-go breakfast or snack and encourages them to taste the results! We are always in for a treat when Chef Go-Go shows up! We all love Chef Go-Go and can’t wait to see her segments on our weekly school newscast, the Wolf View!”
