The North East Independent School District (NEISD) hosted an exciting culinary event that transported taste buds to the heart of Mexico. The buzzing cafeteria of Reagan High School was brimming with anticipation as the School Nutrition Services team revealed their latest culinary sampling–Pozole!
Pozole a beloved Mexican soup brimming with hominy, chicken, and a symphony of spices, cast a spell with its rich aromas that wafted through the air.
School meals are tasty and provide a balanced nutritional diet to millions of children in Texas. “School meals are very important for students because oftentimes they are the most nutritious meals, with the flavor, seasoning, and everything they
need to grow. Unfortunately, sometimes they do not receive that at home” said Betty Torres, Area Manager at NEISD.
The No Kid Hungry Texas team was a proud supporter of this event. They were on hand to pass out pozole samples and gather students’ input on potential new menu offerings.
Taste tests are a great way to introduce new foods and flavors to students while providing an avenue for student feedback on menu items. The pozole taste test at Reagan High School was met with overwhelming approval. According to survey data, over 90% of respondents expressed their delight with the flavor and said they would eagerly choose pozole or other soups as an entrée in the future.
Many thanks to NEISD School Nutrition Services for their efforts and commitment to provide tasty and nutritious meals to all students.
¡Buen provecho!
