The federal budget reconciliation bill is now law – cutting nearly $200 billion from SNAP, putting millions of children and families in a direct path to hunger.
As our Senior Vice President George Kelemen said, “Taking food off the table for families at a time when food costs are already high and continue to rise is unconscionable. We can afford to end hunger in this country, and once again, with these cuts, kids will lose.” Read his full statement here.
These cuts mean less food on the table for kids. Period. That means our mission to make sure kids have access to the consistent nutrition they need and deserve is more important than ever.
We are deeply disappointed, but we won’t slow down our fight for kids.
Here’s what we’re doing next:
- We’re connecting with partners in communities across the country to assess the impact of these unprecedented cuts, and developing a plan to make sure kids continue to get the meals they need.
- We’ll be on Capitol Hill next week with a group of volunteer leaders and advocates from the culinary community and will make clear the harm these cuts will bring.
-
We’re preparing to prevent even deeper cuts to core anti-hunger programs being proposed as part of the FY26 Appropriations process.
Here are three ways you can help right now:
- Repost and share our statement on social media.
- Consider a gift to help us expand our support for school and summer meal programs – ensuring that kids continue to get the meals they need no matter what. Donate now.
- Stay tuned. We have a lot of work ahead of us, and we’ll be turning to the No Kid Hungry community in the weeks and months to come for help. We are so grateful to have you by our side.
