National School Breakfast Week

All Indiana students need easy access to school breakfast. Every year, students miss out on school breakfast impacting their success in and out of the classroom. When breakfast is a seamless part of the school day we see students with improved attendance, improved behavior, and higher test scores. This week is a fun opportunity to increase your students’ access to school breakfast – and you can shine a spotlight on your school along the way! Join us as we celebrate National School Breakfast Week, highlighting the importance of school breakfast and the critical role school nutrition professionals play in helping children succeed in and out of the classroom: thank your school nutrition staff on social media, share this blog post about the importance of school breakfast, or check out these great resources from SNA for more ideas.

Try something new in your district! Breakfast doesn’t have to be served in the classroom. Consider options for your school and work with your school nutrition director, school leadership, and students to also explore new ways to promote the program. Want to learn way to build, promote, and engage stakeholders in your school breakfast program? Check out the School Breakfast Toolkit to take your breakfast program to the next level!

Powering kids in Indiana with school breakfast takes real heroes!

Who in your community has gone above and beyond to ensure that every student has the fuel they need to shine in the classroom? Tell us more for a chance for them to win prizes and receive statewide recognition as Indiana’s School Breakfast Heroes. We are collecting stories of school breakfast champions across the state of Indiana to celebrate those who are doing all they can to make sure students start the day off with a healthy meal. Stories will be added to our Hunger Hero Hall of Fame

A hero is anyone who takes action to improve the school breakfast program and helps kids get the nutrition they need to fuel their learning. It can be from any part of the district or school — a student who facilitates a taste test, a principal who promotes the program, a superintendent who supports a new breakfast service model, a teacher who lends a hand, or a school nutrition staff member who goes above and beyond. We know it takes a village to ensure every student is ready to learn each morning.
