Helping Our Panthers Eat (HOPE)
#HungerHeroes do everything they can to ensure thousands of kids know where their next meal is coming from. Today, we’re celebrating the incredible efforts of a community group that came together to ensure students in Jennings County do not go hungry. Through the collaboration of Joy of Giving (the non-profit arm of Harmon Construction), Good Samaritan Food Pantry, Purdue Extension, Jennings County School Corporation, and many more created a thing we call HOPE for their community.
Ascension St. Vincent Salem Hospital and West Washington Elementary School Join Forces to Feed the Hungry
Today our #HungerHero inspiration comes from a joint partnership between Ascension St. Vincent Salem Hospital and West Washington Elementary School (WWES). The School Nutrition Director for the district, Joni Muchler, was interested in learning more about the different breakfast options. The hospital supported the Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC) model implemented at WWES by purchasing 24 Igloo coolers to store the food and facilitate its transport to the classrooms. Additionally, the Ascension St. Vincent Salem Hospital employees held drives to collect much-needed items like trash bags, sanitizer, and cleaning wipes for the WWES classrooms.
Randolph Eastern School Corp with their Weekend Backpack Program
Whether it’s breakfast or lunch, #HungerHeroes ensure kids are fed and living their lives to the fullest. Join us in honoring the hard work of Randolph Eastern School Corp implementing their weekend backpack program. These resources provide a weekend supply of Nutritious and easy to prepare food free of charge to help children whose families may find it difficult to have enough food and not have access to meals at schools. Currently, we have 105 students that receive a weekend backpack. Several of our younger students ask, “Is it black backpack day”? They look forward to receiving their own food.
