BUILDING NUTRITION HUBS: THE PROGRESSION OF SCHOOL MEALS FOR ALL

With School Meals for All implemented, how can schools expand nutrition services? Schools can adopt the Nutrition Hub model, where students can receive meals year-round. Becoming a hub requires planning, engaging stakeholders, and creating partnerships but in return schools are creating equitable access to food, increasing revenue, maximizing student participation, and becoming a community hub. During this presentation, participants will be introduced to tools and examples that are instrumental to becoming a school nutrition hub!

In this interactive session, participants will learn planning practices for implementing “Schools as Nutrition Hubs.” A model where schools leverage breakfast, lunch, after-school and summer meals to maximize school nutrition funding and ensure more children are getting the nutrition they need all year round. “Schools as Nutrition Hubs”  has expanded to involve partnerships with community based organizations and there are many supports for this work including No Kid Hungry grants, technical support, and peer learning.
