ALERT: Western Placer Unified School District Launches Summer Nutrition Program for Local Kids

Kids 0-18 Years Old Can Get 7 Days of Summer Meals At No Cost!

Sheridan, CA: Plateful by Western Placer Unified School District’s Food & Nutrition Services and No Kid Hungry are letting kids and families know the free Summer Food Program is now available for children and teens!

Good nutrition is essential for learning in school but continuing healthy eating habits is also important during the long hot summer months. Eating nutritious foods helps ensure students retain their hard learned knowledge and to help them to keep right on learning throughout the summer.

“Summer fun should be fueled by healthy food! The Western Placer Unified School District’s Summer Meals program is in full gear, so don’t miss your chance to pick up 7 days of free, nutritious meals for your children ages 0-18. We ask that families please sign up through our sign-up form today—it helps us ensure we have enough food prepared for every child in our community. Let’s make sure our kids are well-fed all summer long!” – Christina Lawson, food & nutrition services director for Western Placer Unified School District

“There’s long been a huge gap between the number of kids getting meals in the summertime and the kids who really need them – particularly in rural communities. New flexibilities for summer meals in rural communities means that no longer has to be the case,” says Kathy Saile, No Kid Hungry California Director. “We’re excited to support these schools and community groups in offering summer meals in ways that work for their community – like allowing families to pick up multiple meals at a time or even offering home delivery.”

Who is eligible for the Summer Food Program:

    • Children ages 18 years and under can pick up 7 days of breakfasts and lunches (14 meals total)
  • Parents or guardians may pick up meals for their own child(ren), otherwise children need to be present.
  • Non-congregate meals are not eligible for children attending summer school since they are receiving meals at school

Where and when should families go to pick up meals?

  • Townview Court, Sheridan, CA (Cross street: Commercial Place)
  • Every Tuesday, 7:30 – 9:30 a.m. from until August 4, 2026

Do families need to sign up ahead of time?

  • You do not need to register but using the Parent Sign Up Form helps staff prepare the quantity of meals needed.

What should families do if they have questions?
