Advocacy Alert: Congress Introduces Bill to Reverse SNAP Cuts

By November 20, 2025No Comments

This week, Members of Congress in both the House and Senate introduced the Restoring Food Security for American Families and Farmers Act of 2025, a bill that would fully repeal the historic SNAP cuts included in H.R. 1, the budget reconciliation bill passed in July. These cuts, totaling nearly $200 billion, will have devastating consequences for families, farmers, and local economies. Share Our Strength has endorsed both bills. Read our statement here.

Right now, families are being squeezed from every direction. The cost of groceries, rent, and everyday essentials has stretched household budgets to the breaking point. For millions of parents, SNAP is what makes food affordable. Cutting this critical program now makes life even harder for families already doing everything they can to get by.

And we’ve already seen what happens to families when SNAP is put at risk. When benefits were suspended during the longest government shutdown in history, it became crystal clear that SNAP is a vital and irreplaceable lifeline.

Now, Congress has a choice: protect the families who participate in SNAP, or stand by as more children face hunger and hardship.

Here’s how you can help influence that decision:

Families are being squeezed by rising costs, and SNAP is what helps keep food on the table. Congress must act now. Urge your Members of Congress to support the Restoring Food Security for American Families and Farmers Act of 2025 and push for a vote to reverse the devastating cuts in H.R. 1. Kids can’t wait. https://bit.ly/3LS0Iju
