On May 12th, No Kid Hungry New York joined with the New York City Public Schools to celebrate the 2025 New York City Hunger Heroes – 38 dedicated members of the Office of Food Nutrition Services (OFNS) who provide nearly 800,000 meals each day to the largest school district in the nation! This was the 4th annual celebration and a good time was had by all!
Program speakers included Kate MacKenzie, the Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of Food Policy; Dan Weisberg, Schools First Deputy Chancellor Dan Weisberg; Rachel Sabella, Director, No Kid Hungry New York; New York City Council Education Chair, Rita Joseph and Shaun Francois, President, District Council 37 and President of Board of Education Employees Local 372. In addition, guests also heard from one of the Hunger Heroes, Chrisula Sartzetakis, about her passion and commitment for the work.
Many say this is their favorite day of the year – a time to honor the front-line staff members connecting kids with meals each day in a city where 1 in 4 kids could face hunger! Learn more about each of our 2025 Hunger Heroes in this gallery.
