No Kid Hungry Provides $483,570 in Grants to California Schools, Nonprofits Serving Free Meals this Holiday Season and Beyond
No Kid Hungry today announced $483,570 in new grants to support schools and community organizations across the state to help provide free meals for kids and families this holiday season and beyond. This latest round of funding is part of nearly $13 million the non-profit has invested in the state since the start of the pandemic to ensure all kids in California remain nourished and healthy.
The holiday break can be one of the hungriest times of year for many kids who rely on the meals they typically get at school. This year, that’s exacerbated by the continuing economic impact of the pandemic and natural disasters that have devastated parts of the state. At the same time, many school districts are facing staffing and supply chain challenges that are making it even more difficult than ever to feed kids.
The grants will support holiday food distributions, the expansion of school food pantries and emergency food relief for families impacted by recent wildfires, while also supporting staffing and equipment needs to allow schools to continue to adapt and improve their meal programs.
“Millions of students returned to their classrooms this fall, many of them facing both learning loss and financial stress at home. School and community meal programs remain a critical lifeline, but right now many of them are facing crippling staffing and supply chain shortages,” said No Kid Hungry California Director Kathy Saile. “As school and community leaders work tirelessly to help students regain a sense of normalcy, No Kid Hungry remains committed to supporting them each step of the way.”
The latest round of No Kid Hungry grants will support the following schools and nonprofits:
