From our friends at the Los Angeles County Department of Parks & Recreation:
Thanks to the generous support of Fire Aid and the Pasadena Community Foundation, LA County Parks hosted two FREE ESTEAM Camps at Loma Alta and Arcadia Parks for children impacted by the devastating Eaton Fire.
To ensure campers’ needs were met, LA County Parks partnered with No Kid Hungry—a national campaign led by Share Our Strength dedicated to eradicating hunger. This partnership was especially critical for our children’s fire recovery camps (Care Camp), as access to nutritious meals fuels healing inside and out, helping children maintain energy and resilience through play.
What’s ESTEAM? It’s Environment + Science + Technology + Engineering + Arts + Math—with a side of nourishment to ensure no child leaves our park hungry.
Every camper received a hot breakfast and a daily snack, prepared by amazing Altadena businesses such as Fat Boys, Fair Oaks Burgers, Little Flower, and Cabrellos Bros. These meals—packed with protein, vegetables, and healthy carbs—support social and emotional healing, foster connection, and spark joy.
With an investment of $108,850 from the No Kid Hungry food access grant to support wildfire recovery, we are not only creating stability for children and families impacted by the Eaton Fire but also boosting the recovery of the local Altadena economy.
LA County Parks is grateful for this powerful partnership with No Kid Hungry and local Altadena businesses—a reminder that community recovery happens one meal, one child, and one act of generosity at a time.
