STATEMENT: Governor Hochul Signs Restaurant Meals Program Into Law

New York, NY: “No Kid Hungry New York applauds Governor Kathy Hochul for signing the Restaurant Meals Program bill into law. Thanks to the efforts of State Senator Roxanne Persaud and Assemblywoman Karines Reyes, the bill’s lead sponsors, SNAP recipients in New York who are disabled, senior or homeless will now be able to use their benefits in participating restaurants. SNAP serves as a lifeline for many New Yorkers, and this legislation will help ensure those who may have trouble accessing kitchen facilities still have regular access to food. With the economic effects of COVID-19 continuing to be felt across the state, this law is a win-win for New York: it prevents hunger, while also supporting local business owners, restaurant workers and our economy.” – Rachel Sabella, Director, No Kid Hungry New York
